DSS confirms interim govt. plot aiming to stop Tinubu’s inauguration

The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed the existence of plot to derail Nigeria’s transition and foist an interim national government on the country. The DSS said the plotters are aiming to prevent the inauguration of the president-elect Bola Tinubu.

Peter Afunnaya, DSS spokesperson, stated this in a release he issued on Wednesday.

He accused some “entrenched interests” of being behind the plot” to “undermine civil rule” and “plunge the country into an avoidable crisis.”

The DSS said: “The planners … have weighed various options” including “sponsoring endless violent mass protests in major cities to warrant a declaration of State of Emergency.”

He added that the plotters are equally considering obtaining “frivolous court injunctions to forestall the inauguration of new executive administrations and legislative houses at the Federal and State levels.”

The security police declared its support for the President and the transition programme, while it warned “those organising to thwart democracy in the country to retract from their devious schemes and orchestrations.”
