  Seven, not five persons died at Calabar Bikers’ parade – FRSC

Seven people died at the venue of the bikers’ parade in Calabar, Cross River on Tuesday, after a car rammed into the crowd of spectators who had gathered to watch the event. This is contrary to the unofficial death toll initially paraded on the accident.

 According to NAN, Maikano Hassan, sector commander of the corps, said the incident occurred on Tuesday during the bikers’ activity in Bobobiri area of the state.

TheCornet reports that the 2022 edition of the Calabar Carnival began on Tuesday with 14 participating states. But the event ended abruptly, when the a Toyota Camry vehicle lost control and crashed into the crowd of the spectators.

He said 29 persons, comprising 21 male adults, three women, and five children sustained injuries.

Based on the accident, Ben Ayade, governor of the state, announced the cancellation of the festival. He also assured he would get the fleeing driver, who caused the accident, arrested.
