Seun Kuti’s wife has not briefed me on adjourned trial – elder sister, Yeni

Yeni Kuti, the elder sister to the embattled Afro-beat singer Seun, says she is unaware his trial scheduled to begin on Tuesday failed to hold.

Punch is reporting that the Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatubosun had failed to commence trial due to his absence. The trial would now begin on Wednesday, May 2.

The newspaper equally said it reached out to dancer and co-show host Yeni, who said Seun’s wife had not informed her of the development as at the time of seeking her comment.

“I have no knowledge of the adjournment, his wife has not reached out to me today; she has not sent me an SMS to that effect; none of them has sent me a text yet. But I will call the wife now, you can call me back in 10 minutes,” Yeni said over a WhatsApp call, according to Punch.

TheCornet had reported that Seun, the youngest son of late Afro-beat maestro Fela Anikulapo, assaulted a police officer during a road rage. A viral video had shown the singer give the on-duty officer a slap across his face.

Following the viral video, the Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba Alkali, and the chairperson of the Police Service Commission, Solomon Arase, called for the singer’s arrest and prosecution. The police leadership said the singer’s prosecution was necessary to restore the confidence of the public in the police force.
