  Senior police officers dismissed, others demoted for various offences Â

Seven senior police officers have been dismissed and 10 others demoted for gross misconduct, according to the Police Service Commission (PSC), on Tuesday.

Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson for the PSC, said, the dismissed officers are one chief superintendent, one superintendent, and five assistant superintendents.

He added that the commission retired one superintendent in public interest and demoted another chief superintendent to the rank of superintendent.

The PSC also reduced the rank of three superintendent to deputy superintendent, and another two deputy superintendent to assistant superintendent.

Equally affected were four assistant superintendents, who were reduced to the rank of inspectors.

In addition, the body said it reprimanded an assistant commissioner of police, one chief superintendent, and two deputy superintendents. Similarly, five assistant superintendents were reprimanded, while four officers were exonerated from the offences levelled against them.

Justice Ogunbiyi called on Police Officers to ensure they operate within established rules and avoid taking laws into their hands.
