Retired DIG seeks N500m compensation for forced retirement

Moses Ambakina Jitoboh, former deputy inspector-general of police, has sued the Police Service Commission (PSC) for compulsorily retiring him following the appointment of Kayode Egbetokun as inspector-general of police.

The Nigeria Police Force retired Jitoboh and three others on the pretext that they were seniors to Egbetokun. But, in his lawsuit filed before the National Industrial Court (NIC), Jitoboh said he had neither attained mandatory retirement age of 6o years nor had he spent 35 years in service. On the basis, he believes his forced retirement was “wrongful,” “unconstitutional”, and, “unlawful.”

Jitoboh said PSC acted in violation of Rule 020810 of the Public Service Rules and Section 18 (8) of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020.

He is demanding N500,000,000.00(Five Hundred Million Naira) as general damages, saying his forced retirement portrayed him as a disloyal officer. In addition, Jitoboh is asking for the sum of N50, 000, 000.00 (Fifty Million Naira) as prosecution cost.
