Real reason Ekweremadu’s daughter failed to attend organ harvesting trial

Sonia Ekweremadu, the daughter of Senator Ike Ekweremadu who is at the center of the organ harvesting case, is currently hospitalised.

Due to her condition, Sonia could not appear in court on Tuesday to answer the criminal charges she is facing alongside her parents.

Her lawyers told the trial her condition and submitted a psychological report to prove she is not fit to stand trial.

Sonia allegedly suffers a kidney-related disease that requires a transplant.

A young man, David Ukpo, who had reportedly agreed to donate a kidney initially, turned to report the Ekweremadus to the UK authorities.

He claimed he was brought down to the UK without knowing he was to donate his organ.

The Ekweremadus are facing charges bordering on conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

The couple was arrested by the London Metropolitan Police in June and appeared before a magistrate court in July.

While the authorities denied Ekweremadu bail, they granted the same to his wife Beatrice. The court has twice declined Ekweremadu’s bail request on the pretext that he is a “flight risk.”
