Probing NCS under Aregbesola not ‘political fight’ – Gbajabiamila

Speaker, House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila has debunked insinuation that the resolve to probe the Nigerian Correction Service, NCS, meant a political fight with Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola.

Representatives resolved on Wednesday to launch a probe into the operations of the NCS, which they said have received budgetary allocations totalling N165billion in the past two years but continue to perform below acceptable standards.

Hon. Gbajabiamila called as “unfortunate” the allusion that the probe is to get back at Aregbesola, who openly derided his political godfather Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Osogbo, Osun State recently.

“It’s unfortunate that this was misrepresented to mean a political fight initiated by the speaker against the minister of interior.

“We all read the unfortunate slant that was given to the well thought-out motion by the minority leader.

“It’s the privilege of the entire House that was breached; it is aimed at distracting us.

“These are things that we ordinarily should ignore. More of it will still come, especially as we move toward the 2023 elections,” said Gbajabiamila, whole responding to lawmakers’ concern on the coloration given to their action.

TheCornet had reported the decision of the House of Representatives to initiate extensive probe into the running of the NCS.

The motion was sponsored by Ndudi Elumelu, (PDP), who is the minority leader of the House of Representatives.
