Probe of Tambuwal over N16.1 billion public fund underway

The Sokoto State Government has said it would probe former governor Aminu Tambuwal, now senator, over his failure to account for N16.1 billion realised from the sale of government shares. Officials involved in the planned probe said that Tambuwal during his tenure had directed the sale of the states’ shares.
“In 2018, the accountant-general of the state transferred all government shares to Sokoto State Investment Limited through an official letter,” Amanzi Amanzi, a lawyer interested in the matter reportedly said.
He also stated that the succeeding government did not see records of the “between 2018 and 2023” transaction.
“These shares were sold, but the proceeds are unaccounted for. This commission has been called upon to investigate the sales and trace the whereabouts of the funds,” Amanzi added.
He also claimed that the former Tambuwal-led government diverted N4 billion out of the said amount into some private and corporate accounts.
