Tinubu denies sacking Akume as SGF following Ganduje’s resignation

President Bola Tinubu has not replaced Senator George Akume as the secretary to the government of the federation. This is according to a statement issued by the Nigerian Presidency on Saturday.

“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement reads.

It added, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.

“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.

“The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news.”

The rumour about Akume’s sack comes in the wake of the surprising resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as national chairperson of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). There are insinuations Ganduje was forced to resign his position to pave the way for the defection of his archrival, Rabiu Kwankwaso to the APC.
