PDP wants Tinubu withdraw ambassador-nominees list filled with “characterless politicians”

A major opposition in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asked President Bola Tinubu to withdraw the list of ambassador-nominees recently released. In its statement, the PDP faulted the list, saying it contains “disgraced propagandists” and “characterless politicians” suffering “integrity deficit”, and known for “anti-democratic activities.”
The party also deplored the inclusion of Professor Mahmood Yakubu, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in the list.
It said that such appointment represents “a skewed reward system” and at the same time a likely “incentive” for the new INEC Chairman after the 2027 election — which will be the first national election to be conducted on his watch.
The PDP describes “this development” … as “a sad commentary on our country’s history of diplomatic representation”, further calling it a “very reprehensible and scandalous” act.
The opposition party tells the President that “appointing and sending ambassadors with tainted political profiles is not only a great disservice to Nigeria but a setup for a diplomatic all-time low.”
“To this end, we demand that President Bola Tinubu withdraw the said list and renominate only those with stellar democratic credentials and high moral standing, capable of commanding global respect for the ambassadorial assignments.”
