Obi meets Pope in Rome, seeks prayer for Nigeria

Opposition figure, Peter Obi, says he has appealed to the Roman Catholic Pope Leo to pray for Nigeria. In a social media post, Obi said he and his wife had travelled to Rome for a commemorative worship, during which he “sought forgiveness for our national transgressions and implored God to intervene in the suffering of the Nigerian people.”

The politician and businessman, Obi, also stated that he sought God to provide good and compassionate leaders to rule Nigeria.

“Leaders whose decisions would reflect competence, capacity, character, and commitment to the welfare of all,” he said.

Obi narrated his pilgrimage tour during which he met with Pope Leo,who incidentally had visited Nigeria in previous times as a missionary .

He said, “At St. Peter’s, we were privileged to be received in audience by His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV @Pontifex, to whom we humbly appealed for prayers for our beloved country, Nigeria.”

“I believe fervently in the power and providence of God …as we lift our nation before Him in prayer, we must not surrender to fatalism,” Obi urged.

Cornet News is reporting that Obi currently nurses a presidential ambition after a solo unsuccessful attempt in 2023 in which he came third place, after incumbent President Bola Tinubu and Abubakar Atiku.

Obi had traversed various political parties since he became a notable politician, spanning from Peoples Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, and Labour Party. He is currently one of the arrowheads of an opposition coalition under the auspices of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
