Natasha mulls options as National Assembly slams door on her face

Embattle Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan appears to be weighing her options now as the Senate continues to shut its doors at her. Reacting to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notice to resume upon completing her six months suspension, the National Assembly acting clerk, Yahaya Danzaria informed the senator that the matter “remains sub judice.”

He said, in his letter to the senator’s that she would not be allowed to resume her legislative duties “until the judicial process is concluded and the senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption.”

Danzaria promised to notify the senator of the senate’s decision once the matter is resolved.

Cornet News had reported Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension by the Senate for gross misconduct. The senator rejected the punishment and sued the senate. Though a Federal High Court ruled that the long suspension was longer than the lawfully allowable time for such, it failed to direct her recall.

The court also found her a derisive publication by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan conterminous of its initial order barring parties from commenting further on the issue while under litigation. It therefore ordered the senator to apologise in three national dailies, a ruling she decided to appeal.
