Policemen Arrested For Killing Undergraduate In Enugu

Some policemen have been arrested for their roles in the death of an undergraduate in Enugu State. They are DSP Nnamdi Ochin, the Officer-in-Charge of Anti-Cult unit Nsukka and ASP Peter Adu. Others are Sergeants Emmanuel Ibiam; Godwin Abel; and Abu John.

The indicted police officers had fled after killing the law student Augustine Ugwu.

The policemen reportedly arrested Ugwu, a final year student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University on April 23, 2020.

Citing a source, ThePUNCH said Ugwu was shot in the leg and handed to DSP Ochin. He would later be declared missing from police custody.

Ugwu’s father, Andy Ugwu, a retired police officer, petitioned the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu. Police said their investigation showed the police officers murdered and buried Ugwu in a shallow.

Meanwhile, Daniel Ndukwe, spokesman for the Enugu Police Command, reportedly confirmed the arrest.
