How ex-minister awarded ₦8bn contract to brother who lacked know-howÂ

Revelations have emerged as to how a former aviation minister, Haidi Sirika, who served in the erstwhile cabinet of former president Muhammadu Buhari, awarded some contracts worth ₦8billion to his brother.

Anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is currently probing Sirika’s actions in office, including the botched move to float a national carrier.Â

The EFCC reportedly apprehended Ahmed Sirika, a civil servant and younger brother to the former minister, over the contract award.

The agency explained that the younger Sirika’s company, Engirios Nigeria Limited, got the four contracts for the aviation industry at the time.

Company registration documents show that he is the MD/CEO of the company and sole signatory to its bank accounts.Â

One of the contracts was for the construction of the Terminal Building in Katsina Airport, awarded at the cost of N1,345,586,500.

Another was for the establishment of Fire Truck Maintenance and Refurbishment Centre in Katsina Airport, valued at N3.8 billion.

The third contract was for procurement and installation of lifts, air conditioners and power generator’s house in Aviation House, Abuja, at the cost of N615million.Â
