Police oppose NURTW’s planned protest in Lagos
The Lagos Police Command has opposed a planned protest by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.
Abiodun Alabi, the commissioner of police for Lagos, on Tuesday, warned against any protest.
Alabi also said that security measures had been put in place to forestall breakdown of law and order in any part of the state.
NURTW activities have been suspended in the state, following the suspension by the national body of its state chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo.
Akinsanya reacted to his suspension by severing affiliation with the national body of the union. He also urged the Lagos State Government to take over motor parks, in line with existing state’s law on park management.
Based on the development, the Lagos House of Assembly affirmed it was legal for the government to appoint a general manager that would coordinate the affairs of motor parks.
