The Imo State Police Command of the Nigeria Police Force says it arrested four persons for being members of a confraternity, Black Axe.
The suspects were arrested “during an intelligence-led operation at Irete, Owerri West Local Government Area”, the police said.
The suspects are Uche Ibejiako, 26; Mariano Daniel, 24; Michael Chukwuemeka, 23; and Annointing Ezeh, 23.
The arrests were “a strategic operation designed to combat cult-related activities within the state,” Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the police command, said.
He added, “All four suspects have confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity, a known criminal group.
“An ongoing investigation to gather further evidence on their activities has started. The suspects will be charged in court upon completion of this thorough investigation.”
Aboki Danjuma, commissioner of police for the state, urged the citizens to support the police.
