Police launch probe into Labour Party attack

The Lagos state police command says it is investigating the attack on four supporters of the Labour Party on their way to a rally held at the Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island.

In its statement, the command said the affected party supporters received medical treatment at a hospital due to their injuries.

The Ilasan Police division, where the incident was initially reported, had begun a probe of the incident before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) took over, said the police.

Benjamin Hundeyin, who speaks for the police, said that the command “strongly condemns the attack and advises all political leaders to prevail on their followers to be law abiding and shun violence.”

“The Command will leave no stone unturned to deal decisively with offenders in accordance with the law.”
