Catholic priest, 44 others kidnapped in Niger State

A Catholic priest and 44 other persons have been kidnapped in Sarkin Pawa, Niger State.

The abductors stormed the village, located in Munya Local Government Area, from where they abducted the priest, Very Rev Father Leo Raphael Ozigi and the others on Sunday evening.

The Secretary, Niger State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Raphael Opawoye, confirmed the Rev Father’s abduction.

Opawoye said “the entire Munya Local Government is in disarray.

“The situation in the area is pathetic. There’s kidnap in all part of the local government.”

James Jagaba, the Secretary, Munya Local Government, also spoke on the incident.

He said: “The entire Munya Local Government is in disarray. The situation in the area is pathetic. There’s kidnap in all part of the local government.”

A resident, Shehu Abubakar, also lamented the insecurity in the village.

“We are worried because it seems our problem is yet to be over. People have just started returning on Saturday to prepare for yam plantation.

“Government encouraged us to go back to our communities that there was going to be security arrangements. People started returning on Saturday and these criminals invaded us again,” he said.
