Peter Obi declares for 2023 presidency

Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor, has declared to contest Nigeria’s presidency in 2023.

His declaration comes barely 24-hours after he was pilloried by some social media users for attending the declaration by former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

Obi ran on a joint ticket with Atiku in 2019, but lost to President Muhammadu Buhari, who secured a second term.

Obi disclosed intentions to Anambra Traditional rulers on Thursday.

“My job here is simple, to inform you people as my own fathers that I’ll be aspiring for the post of President of Nigeria,” said Obi.

Valentine Obienyem, Mr Obi’s Media Adviser, had previously informed of his principal’s intent to run.

“I can assure you that Obi will soon speak as promised and when he does, Nigerians will be happy with what he will say,” Obienyem said on Wednesday.

The former banker had said in February that he would run for the presidency if his party handed him the ticket.
