PDP seeks judge’s removal for alleged bias

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the chief judge of the federal high court to relieve Justice I.E Ekwo of cases involving the opposition party. In a petition signed by its national chairman Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP asked that Ekwo recues himself from handling its suits before him.

The party equally asked that the chief judge to stop assigning cases it is involved in to Justice Ekwo.

Ekwo, the PDP alleged, often issues “injurious ex parte Orders against the party.” The PDP added that Justice Ekwo “issued series of harmful ex parte Orders against the PDP which eventually caused the Party huge electoral misfortune at the 2023 general elections.”

The petition pointed to the Justice Ekwo’s order “restraining the lawful ad hoc delegates” from ward congresses in Edo state from participating in its presidential primary election. It asserted that the order divided its fold. It equally cited similar orders involving members of the party in Rivers, and Cross River states.
