PDP governors sidestep issues pro-Wike lawmakers while declaring support for Fubara

State governors belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party came short of condemning Rivers state legislators loyal to minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike at their meeting, on Wednesday, held in Enugu state.
The lawmakers, opposed to Rivers governor Sim Fubara, have barred the executive arm from engaging in public spending. But the governor and his three-man state legislators backing him disagreed, insisting the 27 opposing members had lost their seats after they declared for the opposition All Progressives Congress.
The PDP governors, in their communique, said its “Forum notes the crises in the Rivers State chapter of the party and commits to ensuring peace.”
The statement, vaguely, added that the governors will “employ wider consultations with stakeholders for a peaceful resolution and thus find a lasting solution to the crises.”
TheCornet reports that the political crisis in Rivers is a spinoff from the disagreement between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.
Equally, in their communique, the PDP showed support for the organized labour’s demand for a new national minimum wage. But the governors, at the same time, reprobated, saying the “agreement (between the federal government and labour) must take into consideration the ability to pay by the local government, sub-national and federal government.”
