PDP decampees boost Gov. Abiodun’s re-election bid

Ogun state Governor Dapo Abiodun’s re-election bid got a boost at the weekend with the decamping of some opposition members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The decampees, according to the governor, are the supporters of late Peoples Democratic Party’s stalwart Kashamu Buruji.

Buruji, a sitting senator at the time of his death, had one time vied for the governorship seat. He ran alongside veteran journalist and Arise News morning show host, Reuben Abati.

Governor Abiodun said Buruju’s supporters defected “in their thousands” in the bid to enable the ruling party to secure “a landslide victory at the forthcoming general elections.”

The governor said that he similarly received another faction of the People’s Democratic Party at a function, held in Abeokuta.

He said, “The defectors were led by their leader, Hon. Akeem Amosun, a former PDP House of Representatives aspirant for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.

“Our expansion and increment is an indication of the fact that we are doing something right as an administration and political party.

“We’re optimistic our achievements will earn us another victory at the polls, come next week Saturday.”

The governorship election will be held on March 11.
