One killed in botched kidnap attempt in Ekiti
One person has been killed after suspected kidnappers opened fire on a commuter bus the deceased and other travelers were on.
The incident took place between Ikere Ekiti and Iju, a border community between Ekiti and Ondo State.
According to a report, the criminals laid an ambush for the travelers but the driver was smart enough to sense the danger and quickly sped off.
Having escaped the criminals, the driver reportedly sought safety at Ilupeju-Ikere Divisional Police headquarters in the state.
The police confirmed the killing and said they were in pursuit of the criminals.
Sunday Abutui, the spokesperson for the Ondo Police Command, recounted the incident as told to him by the bus driver.
“The driver accounted that he was brave enough to have speedily escaped with his passengers from the scene but in the process, one of the passengers was unfortunately hit by a bullet and was rushed to General Hospital, Ikere-Ekiti where he later died,” said Abutui.
Abutu urged residents to give information that could aid the arrest of the criminals.
