Obaseki perplexed as court rejects Asue Ighodalo

By Motunrayo Ajala

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo State and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, are apparently unhappy with the voiding of the primary election that produced Asue Ighodalo as the candidate for the next governorship election in the state.

Ighodalo, a lawyer, is Obaseki’s preferred choice of a successor.

In his ruling on Thursday, Mr. Justice Iyang Ekwo, a judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, made the order in the suit filed by 378 delegates protesting their exclusion from the primaries.

The PDP had conducted the primaries in February but not with protestations from members who faulted the delegates list used for the Congress.

The suit marked THC/ABJ/CS/165/2024 was instituted by one Hon Kelvin Mohammed in a representative capacity.

Justice Ekwo’s held the belief that the primary election contravened certain provisions of the  Electoral Act 2022 and the guidelines set by the PDP for the intra-party election.

More details to come soon…
