Obaseki nominates commissioners 9 months after becoming governor

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo State, South-South Nigeria, has nominated 11 persons for commissionership positions, nine months after he won a second term.

The governor requested the state house of assembly clear the nominees for appointment.

They are Oluwole Osamudiamen Iyamu, (SAN); Prof. Obehi Akoria; Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe; Osaze Ethan Uzamere and Monday Osaigbovo.

Others are Marie Edeko, Joseph Eboigbe, Moses Agbukor, Isoken Omo, Andrew Emwanta and Mrs. Otse Momoh-Omorogbe.

Also appointed as Special Advisers are Crusoe Osagie, (Media Projects); and Sarah Esangbedo Ajose-Adeogun, (Strategy, Policy, Projects and Performance Management.)

Obaseki has attracted criticisms over his delay in appointing commissioners, a decision seen to negate the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended).

Chapter 6, Section 192 of the Constitution states that, “There shall be such office of commissioners of the government of a state as may be established by the governor of the state.”
