Nursing mother hangs self in Borno

A nursing mother, identified as Maimuna, has hung herself, leaving behind her four-month-old infant and her eight other children.

Maimuna lived in Sajeri, Gumari ward of Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, in northern Nigeria.

Daily Trust is reporting that one of the deceased’s children discovered her body hanging on a rope and rushed out to inform their neighbors.

An eyewitness, Baa Modu’s account states that the deceased’s first son had “managed to cut the rope” and lowered her lifeless body to the ground by the time other people arrived at the scene.

Nobody knows why Maimuna took her own life, but anither witness allegedly said she displayed strange behaviour prior to her suicide.

The witness implied Maimuna killed herself because she did not like the house her family had recently moved into in Bulunkutu Kasuwa area of the state.

“In protest, the deceased angrily packed to her parents house, but was brought back yesterday, not knowing that she had plan to commit suicide this evening” the witness claimed.

The police are yet to comment on the incident.
