Nnamdi Kanu sues Malami for N20bn

Nnamdi Kanu, the separatist leader agitating for the dismemberment of Nigeria, has sued the Attorney-general and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami for N20 billion.

Kanu, who leads the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), is accusing Malami of libel, based on the latter’s statement that the separatist leader jumped bail.

Kanu’s lawyers had insisted he was compelled to flee after soldiers invaded his house in Abia State on September 10th. At the time of the invasion, Kanu was admitted to a court bail. He fled to the UK but was later captured in Kenya, where he was forcefully renditioned to Nigeria to face trial.

A federal high court, in a recent ruling, discharged Kanu of terrorism charges. The court held that his rendition fell short of global standards.

Dissatisfied with the ruling, the federal government proceeded to the Supreme Court, which judgement is being awaited.
