APC’s Omisore denies embezzling party funds, takes legal action

Iyiola Omisore, the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asked the party’s national vice chairman (north-west), Salihu Lukman, to retract allegations he made against him.

Lukman, in a television interview, described Omisore as a “divisive figure” responsible for the instability in the Osun chapter of party. He added Omisore equally mismanaged party funds and was responsible for the party’s loss in the 2022 governorship poll.

But, Omisore denied the allegations in a letter his lawyers wrote to Lukman. His lawyers from the firm of ‘Lords Temple’ gave Lukman 48 hours to retract his ‘libelous’ statement, offer an apology in two major newspapers and several online news outlets, and to pay as well as “the sum of N500 million as damages.”

Gboyega Oyewole, SAN, who signed the demand notice on behalf of the firm, said Lukman in the said interview “besmirched the character and integrity” of his client, Omisore.

Oyewole said Omisore had instructed the firm that Lukman’s statement “is not only false, misleading and without any factual basis but malicious in all material respect”, but it is also “a deliberate attempt sponsored and/or designed to malign his (Omisore) image and his political stature as a leader of note in Osun State, the South-West geopolitical zone and Nigeria as a whole.”

Omisore denies he received any campaign funds and therefore couldn’t have mismanaged it, as alleged.

“It is clear beyond doubt that your statement and publication was a political ploy with the intent to impugn the reputation and integrity of our client and unjustifiably and unwarrantedly assassinate his character in the eyes of right-thinking members of the public, ” Oyewole, Omisore’s lawyer said.
