Nigerian terrorist group carries out mass execution of villagers

ISWAP, a terrorist group operating in northeastern Nigeria, has carried out a mass execution of villagers in Kakuwa local government area of Borno State. The area is close to the Lake Chad.
The terrorists had accused the villagers of betraying them by spying and reporting their activities to security agencies. The victims were mostly fisherman, as per a report.
A survivor said that the ISWAP terrorists lined up the villagers, under the guise of wanting to preach to them.
He recounted: “They claimed they wanted to preach to us, and we were deceived. Instead, they gathered us, and their commander ordered our execution.
“They accused us of betrayal, saying some among us were spying for enemies.
“They opened fire on us. At least 35 people were killed, and over 30 managed to escape. One of the terrorists was punished by their commander for allowing some of us to flee.
“Ten more people have returned this morning, so more than 30 people are still missing. We don’t know if they are alive or dead.”
According to Daily Trust, the terrorists group had lost many fighters when they encountered anti-insurgent troops recently. The loss had made them believe that the villagers gave information to the military about their activities.
The residents are reportedly gripped by fear, based on an ultimatum given by the terrorists.
