Nigeria jails ‘American prostitute’ for fraud

An Oyo State man pretending to be an American commercial sex worker has been jailed for fraud.

Oyelowo Mayowa Fawas, 20, from Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State, will  12 months in prison for the offence, according to a statement.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission preferred a two-count charge of cybercrime and possession of fraudulent funds, totaling N58milion against Fawas.

Trial judge Mahmud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court sitting, in Ilorin, Kwara State convicted him on the charges on Friday.

“The defendant was prosecuted by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes, EFCC,” said the anti-corruption agency in its statement.
