Jonathan shuns Atiku’s campaign launch after bewailing his 2015 defeat

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan Wednesday shunned the launch of Abubakar Atiku’s presidential campaign, despite his being named a guest of honour at the event.

Jonathan’s snub comes few days after he bewailed his loss of power in 2015. Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike had said during a televised address said some PDP leaders plotted Jonathan’s defeat. He also revealed how President Jonathan traveled to London to appeal to Atiku for support, but the latter shunned him.

Aside Jonathan, Governors Wike, Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Egwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) were equally absent from the event.

Atiku had used the campaign launching, held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja to unveil three books written in his honour.

The event was attended by PDP governors, ex-governors and top chieftains of the party, among others. Speaking, Atiku took a swipe at the incumbent government.

He said, “The current government has failed at the very essence of what makes a government: the security of lives and property of its citizens.Â

“Our economy is in shambles, growth has stagnated, and our people are facing massive existential challenges daily.  Hunger is the norm today in our country.

“Our nation is in disarray. The fabric of unity that binds our country is, today, being torn apart by mutual distrust, ethnic and sectarian strife and we are now more disunited than we have ever been in our history, including even when we fought a civil war.’’
