NDLEA arrests drug baron linked to Abba Kyari
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a drug baron believed to have imported a large consignment of Tramadol into the country.
The suspect, whom the agency said was under its surveillance for a long time, is named Afam Mallinson Emmanuel Ukatu.
Ukatu’s drug consignment was valued at over N3billion. Abba Kyari, the under trial police officer, and his men reportedly cornered 190 cartoons out of 220 cartoons of drugs seized from Ukatu’s men.
The NDLEA said it arrested Ukatu, who is chairman of Mallinson Group of Companies, onboard a Lagos-Abuja flight on April 13.
“Investigations reveal he has been a major importer of large consignments of different brands and high dosages of Tramadol Hydrochloride, ranging from 120mg, 200mg, 225mg and 250mg, all of which are illicit.
“Ukatu owns pharmaceutical and plastic manufacturing companies, which he used as a cover to import illicit drugs into Nigeria. This is in addition to operating 103 bank accounts, most of which are used to launder money,” said the anti-narcotics body.
