Two suspected thieves burnt to death in Lagos

Two suspected thieves were burnt to death at Ogunlana, in the Ijeshatedo area of the Lagos metropolis.

The suspects were reportedly found with 18 mobile phones believed to have been stolen.

According to NAN, the men had confessed to stealing the mobile phones at Ajegunle, a suburb of the state, before a mob set them ablaze.

Shop owners in the area were said to complained the spate of burglary and theft of their wares, which triggered their anger against the two suspects.

“The victims (both male) were mobbed following accumulated anger of frequent thefts around the shops in the area last few weeks,” the source said.

Reacting, the Lagos State Police Spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin,  who confirmed the story, said that the command condemned the act of jungle justice in Lagos.

He said that the people in the community would tell the police all that they knew about the incident.

“Jungle justice is a crime in our law.

“People should not take laws into their hands. When you see a crime, report to the police.

“We are on the trail of those involved. The people in the community must tell us what they know concerning the incident,” Hundeyin said.
