Tinubu’s aide opposes bandits’ claim, says no negotiation

Daniel Bwala, special adviser on policy communication to President Bola Tinubu, has contradicted the claim by some bandits that the Federal Government paid ransom to secure the release of some kidnapped students recently. Speaking on a Channels Television show, Bwala challenged the criminals to state who exactly paid them money and show evidence of the alleged payment.

Bwala explains that negotiating with bandits does not often involve money, adding that the motive for doing such is to save life.

He said, “Because if your duty is to preserve the life of people, and citizens of Nigeria are in danger, and negotiation is the only way to save them, and you have to save them, then you have to do all that you need to do to save them at that time.” But, the presidential aide deviated from admitting that negotiation could be essential in certain circumstances to saying that President Tinubu has “zero tolerance” for it.

“The federal government does not tolerate the idea of negotiation,” he claimed.
