Navy to establish naval base in Akwa Ibom

The Nigerian Navy is planning to establish a base at Ibeno axis of Akwa Ibom State. The state governor, Umo Eno received the chief of naval staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, who informed him of the plans to do so. The governor said the initiative was an “important step toward strengthening the security of our maritime assets.”

“I assured him of our full cooperation and readiness to immediately issue the Certificate of Occupancy for the proposed Naval Base. Security remains a top priority of my administration, and we will continue to partner with the Nigerian Navy and all security agencies to ensure we continue to live in peace,” Eno stated, according to a statement published on his official social media networks.

The governor stated that his bid to keep the state safe underlined why his administration donated some “gunboats” to the Navy. He added that his administration equally built a passenger ferry in Oron, as part of his efforts “to enhancing security architecture across Akwa Ibom.”
