Imo housewife reveals why she tortured, scalded teen in horrific child abuse incident

A housewife Juliet Igwe, 38, from Uruala in Imo State, has confessed to torturing a seven-year-old girl, identified as Onyinyechi, by scalding her body with candle wax amid several abuses. Juliet also confessed to dipping the teen girl’s hand into hot war for allegedly stealing food and provisions in their home. The victim is a niece of Juliet’s husband, who was abandoned by her own mother after birth. Based on the constant abuses, concerned neighbours decided to report Juliet to the police, leading to her being arrested.
In a statement, the Imo Police Command said Juliet confessed to the crime during her interrogation.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect revealed that she subjected the victim to prolonged physical abuse, dipping her hands in boiling water and severely burning her whole body with melted candle wax, including her private regions, claiming that she stole her food, provisions and money” the police said.
The police added that Oyinyechi had been hospitalized at the hospital due to her injuries.

The Commissioner of Police for the state, CP Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the act, describing it as “a disturbing show of cruelty against a helpless minor.”

The statement says that Aboki assures of the police “commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, especially children, from all forms of abuse and exploitation.”
