FG to close Ijora Bridge for ‘critical repair works’

The federal government has said it is closing the Ijora bridge in Lagos for “critical repair works”.

Olukorede Kesha, federal controller of works, stated this on Monday. The bridge would not be re-opened until April 27, she said..

“A lot of the bearings are defective, and approximately 50 of them will be replaced across three sections.”

She noted the importance of the bridge to vehicular traffic, particularly as it needs to the usually busy Apapa Port.

While she acknowledged that the closure might cause disruption to traffic, Kesha stressed the need to ensure safety of the users of the bridge.
