Naira policy Emefiele’s ploy to get Atiku elected – El-Rufai

Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna state, said that the naira redesign policy was a stratagem by the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to get the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate Abubakar Atiku elected as president.

Atiku had emerged the first runner-up in the Saturday presidential race in which the Independent National Electoral Commission declared ruling party candidate Bola Tinubu, the president-elect.

El-Rufai’s statement comes on the heels of the Supreme Court directive that the federal government and the Central Bank of Nigeria should re-circulate the old N200, N500, and N1, 000 banknotes till December 31.

The Kaduna governor accused Emefiele of misleading President Muhammadu Buhari while he was working surreptitiously for Atiku.

“Do not forget that he was originally appointed (as CBN governor) by the PDP government,” El-Rufai said.

The governor equally did not pull his punches on the Attorney-general and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami’s role in the saga.

“These are people we wanted to be president and governor but lost,” El-Rufai said, implying Emefiele and Malami were pursuing a vendetta.

The Kaduna state governor and 15 others, including Abia, Rivers, and Sokoto states governors sued the federal government on the naira policy.
