NAFDAC launches move against underage drinking

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, (NAFDAC), has ordered alcohol distillers and blenders to discourage underage drinking.

Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC director-general, said she directed the distillers and blenders to “embark on intensive nationwide sensitisation campaigns against underage consumption of alcohol by adolescents below the age of 18 years”

The aim, she said, is “to stem the tide of alcohol abuse in the country,”

The body has also banned alcohol produced in sachets, small volume PET and glass bottles below 200 millilitres.

NAFDAC vowed to deploy the police officers to arrest and prosecute offenders who fail to comply with its ban.
