Myanmar Police have shot one woman and wounded dozens on Saturday following three weeks of protests against military rule. A number of protesters have also been detained, reports Reuters.
It has not been confirmed whether the woman shot in the central town of Monwya had died.
The violence followed a call by the Myanmar’s U.N. envoy on the world body to use “any means necessary” to reverse the Feb. 1 coup.
Myanmar has been in turmoil since the army seized power from elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been placed on house arrest. The army accused the Suu Kyi’s party of vote fraud in the country’s November election.
The coup has seen large protests and criticisms from foreign countries. The United States has slammed sanctions on three military generals over the putsch.
