Minimum wage: NLC, TUC reject govt.’s N57,000 offer

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have rejected the government proposed N57,000 national minimum wage for workers. At the same time, the unions reduced its demand from N615,000 to N497,000.

A source privy to the resumed negotiations on Wednesday reportedly stated that the government upped its offering from the initial N54,000 proposed on Tuesday.

NLC’s president Joe Ajaero had described the government’s offer as “unsubstantial” at the end of negotiations on Tuesday.

The unions gave the government till May 31 to conclude negotiations or face a nationwide protest.
