Many feared dead in Lagos tanker fire

A Friday morning tanker fire is feared to have killed many persons. However, emergency responders are yet to confirm the casualty figure.

The truck, loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, (PMS), exploded at about 3am at Ajegunle Bus-Stop, Alagbado along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The tanker fire gutted many buildings while throwing residents into panic.

The incident happened around 3am on Friday (today).

According to PUNCH, an eyewitness Samuel Adeyemo said “police and fire service have been working and trying to put out the fire.”

An unnamed man who lost his shop to the inferno claimed the tanker went up in flames as people were trying to scoop fuel leaking from its storage.

“I have a shop here. I was called that the fire started around 3am, but by the time I got here, my shop had been razed.

“When the fuel started pouring down the canal, some people tried to scoop fuel. By the time the explosion happened, many of them were trapped and killed,” he reportedly said.
