A Cross River man suffering fecal incontinence has received help from the state governor, Ben Ayade.

Picture of the pitiable, emaciating Deuel Orok has for days circulated the social media as sympathisers solicited medical help for him.

A social media post on Saturday revealed Governor Ayade had directed the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu to take charge of the situation.

Edu reportedly stated that Orok had had three surgeries previously in nine days. The procedures, she said, ” totally destroyed his intestines leading to a fistula”.

“Funds have been released to the family so he can continue to get treatment even outside the country,” Edu added.

Giving his assessment, Dr. Michael Ekong, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Council, CMAC, said Orok’s condition is now stable.

“The patient was referred to us in a bad state but God has decided to spare his life.

“He had a complicated surgery and so far he’s leaking faeces through the skin, since his intestines were being tempered with.

“He will continue to get treatment,” Ekong stated.

Prior to his current admission, Orok, a pilot,  had appendicitis for which he underwent three surgeries, resulting in complications.

Orok, who spoke from his sickbed, confirmed his family had received the state governor’s donation for his medical treatment.

“He (Governor Ayade) gave me another chance to love again.

“My family is forever grateful,” he said.
