CJN to Judges: Resist mob actions and loud voices

Chief Justice of Nigeria Olukayode Ariwoola has urged the nation’s judges to resist the “mob”, their “actions” and “loud voices” when determining a case.

The eminent justice said this at the swearing-in ceremony of lawyers elevated to rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).

He said, “The law remains the law no matter whose interest is involved.

“In all we do, as interpreters of the law, we should endeavour to severe the strings of emotion from logic and assumption of facts

“We should never be overwhelmed by actions and loud voices of the mobor  crowd and now begin to confuse sentiments with the law or something else in deciding our cases

“I admonish all judges, to as usual, receive what is tendered in court and eschew what is against the law and facts after through assimilation both in and out of the court, which exercise is, of course, part of the judgeship.”

Equally urging them to, like Ceaser’s wife, “be above board”, Ariwoola stressed that the judges’ “image and reputation both inside and outside the court must be pristine and crystal clear to all and sundry.”
