Like Nigeria, Zimbabwean doctors, nurses seek greener pastures abroad

Zimbabwe, like Nigeria, is currently experiencing the depletion of its medical professionals especially doctors and nurses.

So far, about 4,000 doctors and nurses are said to have left the West African country for better working conditions abroad.

Reuters, quoting the Zimbabwe’s Health Service Board, said that more than 1,700 registered nurses resigned last year and more than 900 others have done so too this year.

Many of those who left the country are practicing in UK hospitals, which appear to be understaffed.

Zimbabwe’s health workers went on strike in June demanding to be paid in U.S. dollars as inflation further weakened the local currency.
