Lecturers vow to withhold students results over disagreement with FG

Undergraduates at the University of Maiduguri, (UNIMAID) Borno State, would have their results withheld due to the present disagreement between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

TheCornet reports that ASUU is aggrieved over the government’s decision to pay them pro-rata, which excluded the period of their industrial strike. ASUU had called of its eight months-long strike after the government met some of its lingering demands.

The fresh twist to the crisis has the UNIMAID chapter of ASUU threatening not to release its students results, until government pays lecturers’ salaries in full.

Dr Abubakar Mshelia Saidu, the chapter’s chairman, said this at a press conference, held in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

“Members of ASUU will not mark athe current examination scripts; they will also not submit the results of both the first and second semesters of the 2020/2021 academic session.

“There will be no computation of academic status by coordinators of parts 1-4, 5 or 6, as applicable.

“Government said ‘no-work, no-pay; we say ‘no-pay, no-work,” Saidu stated.
