Lawyer accuses federal govt. of planning to assassinate Sowore

A lawyer, Tope Temokun, has alleged the Nigerian Government plans to assassinate activist Omoyele Sowore.

In his statement issued on Thursday, Temokun narrated the arrest and brief detention of Sowore by security operatives in Abuja on the pretext of a petition against him.

He claimed some gunmen had initially double-crossed Sowore’s Lexus sports utility vehicle at Guru area of Abuja, but did not find him in it.

He said the operatives later laid a siege to the Court of Appeal for many hours, where they eventually arrested Sowore before whisking him away to SWAT headquarters, Abattoir Abuja (formerly SARS office).

The lawyer alleged attacks and incessant arrests of Sowore by the authorities had become a recurring pattern.

“We therefore provenly have a reason to conclude that the several assassination attempts on Omoyele Sowore are handiwork of this government and reason the acts are being tacitly supported by the law enforcement agents, who are agents of the Federal Government of Nigeria, across board, under the watch of this government.

“Whatever agenda the government might have with all these desperate deadly moves to eliminate Omoyele Sowore, we put the responsibility on the door-step of President Mohammadu Buhari, who is the Chief Security Officer of this nation,” he said.

Sowore, an anti-corruption crusader, currently facing trial in Nigeria’s capital, has regained his freedom from detention.
