Lagos rail system to lift 1m passengers daily – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that the ongoing rail project would ferry one million passengers daily upon completion.

He said this on Sunday during an on-site inspection of the Ikeja mega terminal of the Red Line project.

“The terminal” , Sanwo-Olu said, would serve “as a multimodal point of exchange, bridging the gap between the Red Line and BRT buses on the Ikeja, Oshodi-Abule Egba axis.”

He explained that the project is part of the state government’s “transportation plan”.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the project would make Lagos the “forward-thinking city” it is “envisioned for it to be.”

“We are continuously at work to make Lagos better and I give you my word, no matter the challenges that continually beset us, we will face them squarely as we continue to work hard to make life easier for our residents.”

President Muhammadu Buhari, in January, commissioned the first phase of the project – a-13 kilometers rail line that has five stations – Mile 2, Suru-Alaba, Orile Iganmu, National Theatre and Marina.

The multi-billion dollar project is being handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC).
