Cort Overrules Nigerian Army, Orders Suspects’ Release

A Federal High Court has ordered the release of over 300 persons, who the Nigerian Army claimed were involved in terrorism.

Maj. Gen. Buba Edward, the director, Defence Media Operations, stated that the Borno-based court took the action due to lack of evidence about the suspect’s alleged involvement.

He added that the suspects “would be handed over to the Borno State Government for further action.”

TheCornet reports that Nigeria has been assailed by terrorist activities, particularly in the northeast region and the Lake Chad basin. Moreover, bandits and insurgents operating in different parts of the federation, including the South-East, has added to the insecurity situation in the country.

President Bola Tinubu, had in a recent speech, expressed his commitment to stamp out criminality and ensure that there is peace in every part of the federation.
