Lagos police beg for calm over lawyer’s killing

The Lagos Police Command has expressed its contrition over the death of a lawyer Bolanle Raheem. A yet-to-be named senior police officer had shot the vehicle conveying the deceased and members of her family.  The incident happened at Ajah, in Lagos State.

The police said the killer officer and members of his team have been detained.

In a fresh statement, the police command “appeals to the good people and residents of Lagos State to remain calm as the Command is already in constant touch with the Nigerian Bar Association and other relevant stakeholders towards ensuring that justice totally prevails.”

The police admit the killing is “one too many” and coming after a similar extra-judicial that took place around the area few weeks ago.

“The condemnable incident is against the standard operating procedures (SOP) and rules of engagement of the Force, and to say the least is embarrassing.

“Beyond this incident, the Nigeria Police Force will carry out a reappraisal of its rules of engagement in a bid to put an end to such avoidable ugly incidents,” the police said.
